Ecology program
Kremikovtzi Corp. is one of the largest
metallurgic plants on the Balkan Peninsula. In 2005 it became
property of Global Steel Holdings Limited. Since then the management
of the company have been applying a systematic approach for
resolving the problems related to environment preservation by
decreasing of natural reserves utilization, decreasing of
detrimental emissions, through implementation of ecological clean
technologies, implementation of the European standards for operating
equipment and technologies.
In the spirit of these principles, the ”Investors program for
execution of Company activities in accordance with Normative
regulations for environment” that is currently being executed and
will be accomplished by 2012.
The program includes activities about components “air” and
“waters”, and factor “wastes” of a total cost of BGN 311 910 000.
The Company has developed an investment program for
technological innovation of production, predicting the
implementation of new ecological technologies, according to the best
international standards. The main items in the ecological program
are supplying of electrical furnaces with sleeve filters, building
of installation for biochemical treatment of the water containing
phenol in Coke oven Plant, installation for dehydrating of middling
slims from Blast Furnaces and SMS. The basic purpose is building of
systems for continuous control of all devices. 20 electrical
filters, 7 bag filters for the exit gasses from the technological
lines. In 2003, a new electrical filter was put in operation,
provided with an automatic monitoring system in the Sinter Plant.
The modernized Blast Furnace - 1 is provided with a new filter. Bag
filters for the Continuous Caster were installed in the period
2005-2006. As per the instructions of the Ministry of Environment
and Water, “Kremikovtzi” AD is accomplishing own observation of air,
water and wastes. This activity is performed directly by the
“Research and control of environment” Department. The subsequent
execution of the ecological activities joint with the technological
innovation and modernization of the Company will decrease the
existing risk for environment and health.
• “Kremikovtzi” AD have to observe the Bulgarian legislation
related to environment protection, in execution of requirements for
prevention and control. The orders proceeding from the law include
execution of requirements and regulations for issuing of permissions
for building and operation of new installations as well as of the
existing ones. (Directive of EU for full prevention and control of
pollution – IPPC 96/91/??.
• In order to achieve that target, the following devices must
be improved in the frames of investors program of the Plant:
- Sinter Plant – modernization of the sinter machines by
structuring and putting in operation of 8 new electrical filters /4
process and 4 aspiration filters/;
- Coke Ovens – capital innovation of coke chemical battery
No4 within the period 2009-2010 by installing of a new coke chemical
block and designing of projects for biological-and-chemical
treatment of water for phenols and a system for indirect water
cooling, as a condition for stopping the coke oven battery No3.
- Blast Furnaces – capital repair with a reconstruction of
Blast Furnace No3 during 2007, including implementation of
installation for collection and purging of emissions from the
casting area and the slag granulation area.
- Steel Melting Shop – structuring of devices for purging
of gas emissions from the existing converters and electrical arch
furnace. All available converters will be repaired and two
converters will be in operation at every moment.
- Hot Strip Mill – reconstruction of the fuel system for
the Reheating furnace No1.
- Power Plant - reconstruction of the fuel system for
steam generator and implementation of a system for automatic
operation of the heating process.
• Through the execution of these projects we will achieve:
- Decreasing of dust separation from sinter plant in the
frames of permitted limits.
- Stopping of the detrimental emissions from the coke oven
plant and achieving of gas and gas emission separation in the
permitted limits; the water for phenols treatment will be processed
and used in circulating cycle;
- Reducing the detrimental emissions during the operation
of Blast Furnaces No3 and No1 will stop, and dust separation from
the area of Blast Furnace No3 to the permitted limits;
- The detrimental emissions from Electrical Furnace No3
will be stopped and will ensure maintenance of dust separation in
the frames of the permitted limits;
- The maintenance of emissions of nitrogen oxide from
Reheating furnaces in Hot Strip Mill will be provided in the frames
of permitted limits;
- The emissions of nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide from
the steam generators in the power plant will be provided in the
frames of the permitted limits.
